Sick Visits

When your child is sick, we’ll do everything we can to help him/her feel better

Who likes being sick? Nobody, least of all your child. When a cold or a persistent cough or fever is making your child feel lousy, we want to see him/her in our office, or at least talk with you by phone to evaluate the seriousness of the illness and determine the best course of treatment.

At Westchester Health Pediatrics, the most common ailments we see are:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Vomiting
  • Sports injury (including concussion)

Typically these can be treated with antibiotics, prescription or over-the-counter medicines, or rest, but in some cases, they are the symptoms of a serious illness or injury and require more advanced treatment. If you’re not sure of the extent of your child’s illness or injury, we always recommend bringing your child in to see your pediatrician.

Serious symptoms you should not ignore

Runny nose, sore throat, stomach ache…while these are common complaints of childhood and can make your child feel pretty bad, they most likely can be treated at home with over-the-counter remedies. However, if your child develops an extremely high fever or a fever that lasts more than 48-72 hours, a crashing headache that won’t go away, a persistent stiff neck, a widespread rash or a severe stomach bug, contact your pediatrician right away.
