My interest in pediatrics began in my early teens, around the time when a very close family member became seriously ill. It was then that I realized the importance of how one’s experiences as a child and/or a young adult can shape their entire future. I knew that I wanted to make a substantial difference in children’s lives at that critical period and dedicated my adult life striving for that goal through the study of medicine.

Throughout the years, I have learned the importance of working with the whole family unit and not just treating the child. I have come to understand the family-approach to care as being an important factor in promoting positive change in a child’s life.  I feel it’s important for children and families to feel heard and to have an active role in their health. My philosophy in treating children and families is to treat them as if they are your own family.

I believe that everyone deserves access to good healthcare. I have had the opportunity, in the last fourteen years, to work for Montefiore with an underserved community in the South Bronx. I learned to treat children and their families with different medical complexities in a very holistic approach, with a specific emphasis on mental health difficulties, amongst others, experienced by families.

Parenting and raising healthy children can be challenging at all stages. My goal has always been to promote a healthy start for both mothers and their babies, by helping them develop healthy habits and deep bonds. In response to this, I had an opportunity to develop and facilitate a unique and innovative model of care, which focused on all aspects of development (i.e., nutrition, social-emotional development, and maternal wellness) for infants and toddlers from birth-to-two.  I ran this well-baby group care model for 10 years best health outcomes for not only children but their caregivers as well.

Working within this community has taught me how incredibly resilient children can be. It's been an invaluable experience for me, which I will use in treating all children, adolescents, and young adults. It is privilege to be a part of a child’s development and see them grow to become healthy and happy.
