Peter Mercurio, MD, FACC

President, CEO, Westchester Health

Since its inception in July 2007, Peter Mercurio, MD, FACC has been the President and CEO of Westchester Health, evolving the group from its 30+ founding members to over 90 healthcare providers in more than 40 locations throughout Westchester and Fairfield counties. In March 2017, Westchester Health joined Northwell Health and became part of Northwell Health Physician Partners. Throughout this transition, Dr. Mercurio has continued Westchester Health’s mission of affordable, patient-centered care, providing the standards for quality care in the Westchester, NY and Fairfield, CT regions. Dr. Mercurio completed his Residency and Chief Residency training at the NYU School of Medicine, as well as a subspecialty program in Cardiology at NYU Bellevue, achieving top fellowship status. He has also received subspecialty training in Nuclear Cardiology. Having practiced medicine in the community for more than 30 years, Dr. Mercurio was a founding member of Westchester Health Associates. He has served on the Board of Trustees at Northern Westchester Hospital and has been a past President of the Medical Staff and Chair of the Medical Board. He has had appointments to Northern Westchester Hospital, NYU and the Westchester County Medical Center, and is currently Assistant Professor of Cardiology at the Northwell Zucker School of Medicine. As an administrator, Dr. Mercurio plays a key role in directing Westchester Health as it provides the primary care footprint for Northwell Health to grow in this region. He continues to serve as President and Board Chair of Westchester Health and is a Regional Director for Strategic Growth for the Northwell Health System. Dr. Mercurio’s leadership ensures that the mission, vision and values of Westchester Health align closely with the Northwell System, allowing the integrated, multi-specialty group to give its patients the best possible care.

Nancy R. Beran, MD MHCDS CPE

CMO, Westchester Health

Nancy R. Beran, MD MHCDS CPE is a founding member and Chief Medical Officer of Westchester Health. In this role, Dr. Beran has been integral to the strategic recruitment and integration of new physicians and to the clinical growth of Westchester Health practices in Westchester, NY and Stamford, CT. Leading the transformation of Westchester Health’s practice over the past 10 years, Dr. Beran consistently focuses on patient-centered, value-based care. She has overseen the implementation of NCQA Patient Centered Medical Home certification in all Westchester Health primary care sites, and has worked as an innovative regional leader on Medicare’s Comprehensive Primary Care Initiative. Having designed numerous quality and population health-based programs at Westchester Health, Dr. Beran now oversees Westchester Health’s population health strategy and participation in the Northwell Medicare Shared Savings Program. Currently, she serves as the Director and Chief of Quality in Westchester and Fairfield counties for Northwell Health Physician Partners. Dr. Beran is a practicing Internist with over 20 years’ experience whose primary focus is Women’s Health. She performed her undergraduate work at Washington University in St. Louis, graduating Phi Beta Kappa, attended medical school at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College (formerly Jefferson Medical College), and performed her residency at the prestigious University of Texas Southwestern Internal Medicine program. In addition, she recently completed her Masters of Healthcare Delivery Science at Dartmouth College. For the past five years, Dr. Beran has been recognized as a Top Doctor in Westchester County, Exceptional Woman in Medicine 2017, and practitioner of an outstanding clinical practice with the Comprehensive Primary Care Initiative. Above all, her fundamental commitment is to her patients and to improving healthcare for all.

Teresa A. Whitney, MHA, CMPE

Vice President, COO Westchester Health

Teresa Whitney joined Westchester Health Associates in 2009 as its Chief Operating Officer. Responsible for all operational aspects of Westchester Health, Ms. Whitney has built the infrastructure needed to support the group as it grew from 30 original members to over 90 providers in 37 sites. With over 25 years in healthcare administration, Ms. Whitney has extensive experience in strategy, business and clinical operations, finance, and human resources. She particularly enjoys mentoring managers and directors while helping them succeed in the field of medical practice management. Ms. Whitney holds a Bachelors’ degree in Management from Granite State College and a Master of Healthcare Administration from Ohio University. She served on the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Medical Group Management Association for 9 years and served as President in 2016. Ms. Whitney is a board certified medical practice executive through the American College of Medical Practice Executives.
