Dennis McGroary, MD
Dr. Dennis McGroary specializes in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. McGroary graduated from The New York Medical College. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Stony Brook University.
Dr. McGroary joined the attending staff of Northern Westchester Hospital in 2001, where he has a special interest in preconceptual counseling (preparing for a healthy pregnancy) and prenatal care. He is well-known on Labor & Delivery for his reassuring manner and easy warmth. He is known to be skilled and calm under pressure. Based on the most current evidence, Dr. McGroary believes in taking extra measures to avoid routine episiotomy, and perineal tears during delivery. His patience may also contribute to his low cesarean section rate. He is very experienced working with doulas when the patient desires, which can lead to shorter labor and less medical intervention.
Since 2006, Dr. McGroary was joined by colleague, Susan S. Malley, MD, an experienced Obstetrician and Gynecologist with special interest in adolescent gynecology, who moved her practice from NYC to be closer to her family. Currently, they share night call responsibilities for their patients, ensuring that their patients will have at least one of their two doctors present for their delivery, taking a little stress out of a potentially stressful time. They understand that expectant mothers want their pregnancy to be overseen by a caring, highly qualified physician that she has learned to trust; one who has cared for her over the past year.
In addition to his Obstetric practice, Dr. McGroary practices minimally invasive gynecological surgery, including endometrial ablation, diagnostic and therapeutic hysteroscopy and laparoscopic myomectomy. He has a special interest in uterine preservation, when feasible. In the event uterine removal is necessary, he is experienced in laparoscopic hysterectomy, which allows the patient to have a quicker recovery and smaller scars than the traditional approach.
Dr. McGroary is is a partner in the prestigious Westchester Health Associates and is affiliated with both Northern Westchester Hospital Center and Putnam Hospital Center. Together with Dr. Malley, they care for patients in offices in Katonah and their new, state-of-the-art office in Yorktown, as well as Carmel, New York, close to Putnam Hospital. Thanks to word-of-mouth from happy new mothers, Dr. McGroary see patients from all over Westchester, Dutchess, Putnam and Fairfield counties. He lives in Goldens Bridge, NY with his wife and their four young children.
